V-Black film diagnostic sensor

The V-Black diagnostic sensor is conceived to detect and document Surface imperfections of film material. Using a proprietary illumination technique, the V-Black diagnostic sensor Family completely separates in real time the surface and carrier imperfections from the image content.

The surface and carrier imperfection data are collected as result images, categorized image by image and then stored on disk all in one film run.

The system generates defect location information interfacing directly the restoration process.

Diagnoses both film sides in one shot in same place.

Key Features:

  • Frame rate.......................... 0,1 fps to 50 fps
  • Proxy view.......................... Real time in 1k and surface defect view
  • Film formats........................ 8mm to 35mm
  • Result storage..................... >2 hrs SSD Disk local capacity
  • Topographic resolution.......... 1k
  • No heating of the film surface

Defect Detection:

  • Splice detection / splice shape
  • Deposits detection / deposits distribution

High Resolution Film Transfer System for 16 and 35 mm

The flashtransfer vario combines several characteristics which have been developed to meet all the requirements in a film archive or postproduction environment. It is practically possible to use any picture sensor to get resolutions up to 4K or higher. With the build in LSD (Laser shrinkage detector) the system can transfer dynamically shrunken material (up to 4%) without any problems while it collects different types of meta data (XML file) like condition of perforation, splices, shrinkage etc. The continuous capstan film transport with ist large guide rollers and the possibility to use large film reels up to 4000 ft reduces the risk of damaging the film material during the transfer process to a minimum. The optimized laser technology provides you excellent picture stability even with highly damaged material.

Multispectral Document Scanner

Thanks to the innovative multispectral LED Light of the Revelator it is possible to take photographs in the UV up to IR spectrum. The visible content gives Information, that remains invisible for the human light spectrum. The camera, lens and light are designed for wavelengths from 365 to 945 nanometres.
Also it is possible to take photographs in RGB and different colour temperatures in white light.
The microcontroller supported handling offers manual and automatic functional processes and thus fast and effective operations. The lightbody can be used on both vertical and horizontal axes. Due to its compact design and its low weight the Revelator can be transported as hand baggage on a plane.
The Revelator can be used both mobile and stationary as it can be charged by its power supply or an accumulator. The Reprostand ensures a precise and safe copying. The Revelator can be used in many sectors of fields, for example the historcal forensics. In the process of time can documents and manuscripts be damaged by chemical processing, burnings or ink which makes them illegible.
Also on palimpsisted - a process in which the documents where washed and rewritten - documents the washed of text can be visualized.

Optical Sound Laser Recorder

The LLK5 is a new type of optical sound recorder which enables substantial improvements in quality of optical sound recording by applying „state of the art“ laser technology.

It simplifies the production of the sound negative significantly since no mechanical moving parts are employed in the optical recording path, and offers exceptional proven operational reliability.

The exposure of the analogue mono or stereo sound track is carried out by a focused and scanned beam of a HeNe laser, emitting green light at a wavelength of 543 nm. The laser beam is deflected perpendicular to the film transport direction in relationship to the audio signal by acousticoptical modulators and deflectors. The beam records equidistant light application tracks with a width of 5-7 µm, the envelope of which corresponds to the contours of the analogue optical sound track.

The constant distance of the scan tracks on the film is ensured by triggering the beam movement through a rotary encoder on the sprocket sound drum. This technique also facilitates the excellent wow and flutter characteristics of the LLK5 because the recording is independent from the film speed due to the digital buffer storage of the sound within defined limits.
Features:

• high reliability
• easy to use
• Excellent sound quality
• Simultaneous recording of analogue mono/stereo sound,
optional: DTS, DOLBY SR*D and SDDS
• Master and slave bi-phase coupling
• Insensitive to frequency and level overload
• Very low wow and flutter
• Substantially improved frequency response
• Almost no ground noise even with critical source material

Dolby CA2011
Model CA201 provides a means to produce Dolby Digital sound negatives from a previously mastered source.
Designed by MWA Nova GmbH, the MWA DOLBY® CA2011 camera adapter replaces the existing DOLBY® CA10, while keeping compatibility with existing optical sound track recorders: MWA’s LLK series, the world’s most successful laser optical sound camera, and the Westrex optical sound camera. The new, low power consumption design uses cutting edge technology and provides new flexibility for users.

Laser Shrinkage Detector

The L.S.D. (Laser Shrinkage Detector) is a modification kit for the MB51 magnetic film reproducer. It enables it to play shrunk films with shrinkage rates up to 4 %.
The MB51 synchronizes itself to external sources by the help of a sprocket wheel. The encoder pulses from the sprocket wheel encoder and the synchronisation pulses are counted and the machine regulates the capstan speed in a way to keep the counters equal. Shrunk film has the problem that it does not run over the sprocket wheel because the perforation pitch does not match the sprocket distance. The sprockets could also damage the film when they hit between the holes. A simple measure would be to file off the sprockets. The MB51 will transport the film in this case but of course not synchronous and at wrong speed. One could think of correcting the audio length afterwards with an editing program, but that is no solution since the shrink-age is likely to vary a lot during playback. The sound would never be in lip-sync.
The L.S.D. modification includes:

- A special sprocket-less wheel to replace the  existing sprocketed wheel

- A laser light barrier will be mounted nearby the sprocketless wheel

- A microcontroller module with display will be  installed inside the machine
The signals from the sprocketless wheel encoder and the light barrier run into a digital signal processor which calculates the position of a "virtual sprocket wheel". It then generates the according output pulses which replace the original encoder pulses from the sprocket wheel.
From the machine's point of view nothing has changed. That means the MB51 can be operated and synchronized as usual. The laser light barrier is sensitive enough to detect the per- foration even in clear film. In case of damaged perforations, sophisticated software algorithms sort out the useless perfs and calculate their position from their neighbours. Timecode and frame sync remain consistent up to 15 unreadable holes. A display provides some information like actual shrinkage rate and exact speed as well as the number of bad perforations found.

Benefits of an L.S.D. modification
The MB51 will be able to reproduce any kind of film with shrinkage rates up to 4%. The speed is corrected during play- back and stays perfectly in sync with external sources like word-clock, biphase or video sync. Unlike solutions with exchangeable sprocket wheels, L.S.D. also works when the shrinkage rate varies during playback. Since no sprockets exist in the whole film path, there is no danger of damaging valuable archive material. In combination with the specialized vinegar sound head the user gets a solution for not only shrunk films but also films in curly and waved condition.
